Meet The Man Who Designed Supercharged Streamlined Skincare
Venn has developed a skincare formulation, to optimise, and effectively deliver essential nutrients and powerful natural ingredients to the skin. The line combines twenty years of research and innovation with high-performing, clean components thoroughly analysed to ensure quality and safety.
We have sat down with Brian Oh, Co-Founder, and CEO, to learn more about him and how he managed to penetrate the beauty industry.
Tell us a little about your background.
Before VENN, I worked as a bank finance lawyer in New York City, representing financial institutions and private equities in connection with leveraged financings and debt restructurings, and then as a corporate lawyer in Silicon Valley, representing startup companies and venture capitals in connection with generate corporate matters and venture financings.
How did your skincare line come to be?
My work as a lawyer with companies in the life sciences industry led me to meet now my co-founder, a nuclear physicist and one of the foremost chemists in the skincare industry in South Korea with decades of research involving skincare formulations, ingredients, and technologies. His research focusing on the "engine" of skincare formulations—technologies to optimize and more effectively deliver key ingredients to the skin—inspired me enough to leave my legal profession and co-found Venn Skincare, Inc. for the development of VENN skincare. VENN's core science is inspired by my co-founder's decades of ground-breaking research.
How would you describe Venn to someone who had has never heard of it?
VENN is a scientifically innovative brand, focused on creating skincare formulations with a powerful, "supercharged engine" to optimise and effectively deliver proven actives and key natural ingredients to the skin for clinically proven, visible results.
What's the most common skincare mistake?
People tend to think that layering multiple products is good for the skin, or at least you need to use many different products to achieve better results. This isn't necessarily true. In fact, using multiple products may do more harm than good, since there's a higher risk of the different actives in different formulations neutralizing or blocking the penetration of each other and sensitizing the skin. So, we recommend streamlining your skincare routine with powerful, multi-correctional formulations, in which the actives are carefully formulated to work in synergy. Favourite clean beauty products you don't make?
We don't have a SPF and a hair conditioner. We've been working very diligently to introduce innovations in these two categories with clean formulations.
What inspires you to get out of bed every day?
Our goal is to introduce the latest and the most advanced innovations in skincare through our formulations. So, I spend half of my time with our R&D team, discussing their research and new ingredients and formulations the team's working on. Our latest focus on the skin microbiome, and specifically certain probiotics and prebiotics the topical application of which help balance the skin microbiome, has been personally very inspiring, especially with our key formulations carrying this research achieving microbiome-friendly certifications.
